My Travels

On this page, I would like to introduce my travel to the European Union. As I continue to explore new places, I will update this site with my experiences. Please note that this information is intended as a reference tool only. As the world is constantly changing, it’s important to keep in mind that the information provided may not always be up to date.

Getting Ready for the Trip.

Back in the day before I learned about all my travel options and available discounts, I paid a travel agency to get me set up on all the airline and travel needs to arrive at my destination. Now you can go to this site and get those travel discounts yourself along with many others. I went to my Counselor at School and was enlightened about this college program called “Know Europe” I could use this as my last class I had before my Bachelor of Science Degree. It was kind of a celebration and a way to gather my final credits before graduation.

Travel Plan put into place.

Now I obviously needed to get a Passport. Here is the U.S. Passport site this will provide you with the information you need for a new passport or to update your current one. My travel agent set up the flight itinerary to get to my hotel in Brussels Belgium. On a long flight with stops in Ohare and JFK, I am glad I got an aisle seat to stand up on the long trip across the Atlantic. So the flight problem was solved.

Packing and Take-Off

Now what to pack or in my case what luggage to take. I put a plan into place. I got the two-suitcase idea of the rolling suitcase that fit into a large suitcase. The reason you ask? I was going shopping while in the European Union. So I filled up my smaller roller case of items that I needed to take with me. I could survive a few days and put it into my larger suitcase that I was going to fill with stuff from my travels. By the way, it worked nicely. Decided to buy a bunch of clothes and shoes and too many soccer tops that I barely wore upon my return. I was also aware of possible jet lag and hunger.

I ate like crazy before arriving at the airport. At Airport went to restroom and immediately. Then went to the Bar so I could get sleep on plane and get my internal clock changed. It surprisingly worked and the first leg of trip was off to a good start.

The Arrival

Landed at London Heathrow Airport. I got off the plane and was waiting for a jet to Belgium. While waiting in line to catch the plane to Belgium the British inspectors asked me if I had been “Felt” yet. What were they saying then this fellow American said to me “They just want to know if you had your bags with you the whole time”. Who thought that the only country I would have a tough time understanding would be the English? I had to walk on the runway and climb the stairs to jet. What little did I know what was called a jet. This was a Turbo Prop plane that was more concerning to me than flying over the whole Atlantic Ocean. When we arrived in Belgium, I had to use my passport and I caught a cab to my hotel in Brussels.

Brussels continued here.
